(MONROE, WA.) -- Snohomish County Fire District 7 Commissioner Guy Palumbo has resigned from his position on District 7’s Board of Fire Commissioners.
Palumbo was recently elected to the Washington State Senate, and although his desire was to finish the rest of his term as a Fire Commissioner, his primary focus is now on his new duties as a Senator, said District 7 spokeswoman Heather Chadwick.
Palumbo's resignation was effective Sunday, March 5. He served on the Fire District's board for four years and was described as "a great asset for the citizens of Fire District 7," whose positive work ethic, professionalism and dedication served the district well, said to getting the job done has served us all well,” said Commission Chairmen Roy Waugh.
After the merger of Fire District 3 into Fire District 7, the district has been working under a 10 person board. Through the election process, the number of commissioners will eventually be reduced back down to five.
In accordance with state law Commissioner Palumbo’s position is not considered to be a vacancy that needs to be filled due to the number of remaining board members.
