(BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WA.) -- On December 28th of last year Sarah Dean, 33, was walking home on State Route 305 between Noll Road NE and Johnson Rd. NE in Poulsbo, WA in Kitsap County when she was hit and critically injured by a Dodge Dakota pickup truck.
It was a hit and run event with the driver leaving the area without stopping to render aid. Sarah was left badly injured in a ditch in the dark.
Her mother says since that time she's endured multiple surgeries with compound fractures in her leg and hand. Sarah's recovery and rehabilitation is expected to last into the end of the year and steep medical bills are piling up.
Sarah's mother works for the Coldwell Banker real estate office on Bainbridge Island and her office has put together a fundraiser for Sarah to be held on Saturday April 15, which is Sarah’s birthday.
The "Dance/Walk-a-Thon" event begins at Bainbridge Island High School and concludes at Waterfront Park in downtown Winslow. The community is invited to participate in the festivities by dancing or walking along the route and by wearing rainbow colors, "as they are joyful, festive and celebrate spring and the promise of a brighter future for Sarah," according to a statement from Coldwell Banker Bain (CB Bain) of Bainbridge Island.
Donations will be collected at sites provided at the start and end of the route, as well as along the event route.
Additionally, donations will be accepted at any time at the CB Bain of Bainbridge Island real estate office, located at 299 Madison Avenue North or via Sarah’s Go Fund me page that was set up by her mom. The page can be found here .
As of early Wednesday morning over $28,000 had been raised on a goal of $50,000.
