(SULTAN, WA) -- Sultan’s annual Spring Community Cleanup day is set for Sat. April 14.

The event will be held from 8 am to Noon at Sultan High School (enter through the back way on 8th street). Gates close at Noon on dee button so if you snooze you lose.

This year's combo promo piece/admission circular (and release form) which you should already have received in the mail is a veritable cornucopia of information about what stuff you can and cannot bring to get rid of.

Lots of folks roll in with pickup trucks stacked high with junk because it’s the one day of the year when town folk can pick up almost anything from around their house, yard or back-40 and (with a few exceptions) dump it off for FREE at the Sultan High School parking lot.

For example, with a 20 gallon limit Sultan residents can drop off for free things like old cans of paint (but NO Latex paint) old varnish and stain cans, batteries, brake fluid, herbicides, insecticides, moth balls, motor oil, oven cleaner, solvents, rugs and upholstery cleaners, bleach, antifreeze, gasoline, diesel fuel and much more.

Reefers and freezers require a $30 fee to cover disposal cost. There's free recycling of clothes washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers and hot water tanks.

There's also green waste recycling like leaves, grass, plants and tree limbs and free metal recycling such as bicycles, wire, cable, copper, aluminum, empty burn barrels and more.

Computer CPU’s can be brought in for recycling but computer monitors and televisions cannot be accepted.

In terms of metal recycling you bring in bicycles, wire, cable, copper, aluminum, motorcycle frames, tire chains, auto parts (all fluids pre-drained) and more.

Stuff you can’t bring includes things like medical waste, asbestos, explosives, bed springs, window screens, mattresses, couches, tables, lawn chairs, sinks, tires, pet litter, food waste and more.

Questions? Call 360-793-2231.
