(GOLD BAR, WA.) – The Chronicle has eyes and spies everywhere, so don’t try to get away with anything, hear?
The other day we got a message (on the coconut wireless) from one of our sources in Gold Bar. By the way, is there really still gold left in the rivers in the backwoods up there? We keep hearing about guys goin’ back in there with old fashioned gold pans and working the sand bars and side channels of the rivers and streams.
Never mind about that, we’ve got bigger fish to fry. So the thing is, we hear that a fine fellow named Bill Tubbs, the Director at Camp Huston in Gold Bar (a well known Episcopol Summer Camp and Event Center) is celebrating (are you ready?) his 30 year anniversary at the camp on Sunday April 22.
They’re having a big hoedown for Bill there from 11 am to 4 pm. How many guys you know been in the same gig for 30 years? In the same place? Bill is now a living legend.
Bro Bill is, by all accounts, an amazing guy. A man who took Camp Huston from a tiny summer church camp way back when to a thriving retreat and conference center run year round over those 30 years, besides maintaining a successful Episcopal Summer camp for kids. (In the words of Bill, Camp Huston is kind of like a big bed and breakfast, “where we provide Christian hospitality and help develop young leaders.”)
Camp Huston is also part of the superb missionary outreach program of the Episcopal Dioces.
Bill, by the way, is also a Fire Commissioner in Gold Bar and a Captain in the All Volunteer Gold Bar Fire Department (has been for the past 20+ years). He’s been known known to single-handedly put out a 4-acre brush fire just by blowing real hard on it.
Like we said, the guy’s a living legend.
So Bill, congrats on your 30 years and for your many accomplishments, hard work and all the good you’ve done for your community over the years.
Guys like you don't come along every day pal. Gold Bar and the upper valley is very lucky to have you. You are one of those thousand points of light the first President Bush talked about lo those many years ago. And your light does shine bright brother.
God Bless pardner and here's to another thirty good years.
