Portland gets
big time snowfall

(PORTLAND, ORE.) -- Portland got hammered overnight with one of its biggest snow drops in years. More than a foot of wet snow fell between last night and early this morning.

The snow was coming down at "more than an inch an hour before midnight in Portland," according to The Oregonian,

A lot of flights have been diverted from the Portland airport and some are canceled. Some flights have been diverted to the Seattle-Tacoma International airport.

Some bus routes in the Portland area are canceled, others are seeing delays. Many local schools, colleges and universities are closed for the day as are courts, city offices and many businesses.

Portland has closed roads throughout the city because of snow, ice and trees down. It's also requiring chains or traction tires for some roads.
