(EVERETT, WA.) -- A special gift showed up this week arrived to help hungry families in the area, just in time for the holidays.

Puget Sound Energy donated $2,000 to benefit Volunteers of America’s Everett Food Bank this month. The check was presented by Walt Blackford, PSE Outreach Manager at the Board of Director’s meeting for Volunteers of America on Tuesday.

Accepting the gift on behalf of Volunteers of America Western Washington (VOAWW) were Bob McMahon, President, Board of Directors; Phil Smith, President/CEO, and Alison Cook, Senior Director of Hunger Prevention.

The gift comes at a time when demand at all area food banks is high and "VOAWW is implementing more places and times for families, seniors, and individuals to access food," said the VOAWW in a statement.

In Snohomish County, over the next month, nearly 35,000 people will need to visit a food bank to get enough food for their family and the holiday season is especially difficult for those who are unable to cover basic needs.

“Gifts like this one from PSE make all the difference,” said Alison Cook, Senior Director of Hunger Prevention at VOAWW. To learn more about the agency's programs and services, and how to contribute visit www.voaww.org.
