Art Bell, One Time King Of Late Night Radio in America Dead At 72
April 16, 2018

CLICK TO ENLARGE: Art Bell, seen here in his home studio in Nevada in an old publicity still from SiriusXM satellite radio.
(NATIONAL) – For years in America during the 1990’s and into the early 2000’s, if you worked the second shift and got home late or had insomnia and were up during the wee hours of the morning, you probably listened at one time or another to the Art Bell “Coast To Coast AM” radio show.

For more than two decades Bell, whose program covered all sorts of off-the-beat topics such as UFO’s, Area 51, Bigfoot, ghosts, alien abductions and the like passed away April 13th at the age of 72 at his Nevada home, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal

The Nye County, Nevada, sheriff's office says an autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death.

Bell was a resident of Pahrump, Nevada - an unincorporated city of under 40,000 in Nye County that boasts six legal brothels and many artesian wells - and did his one-man radio show from a home studio there.

It was syndicated nationally on about 500 radio stations across the country and Canada during the 1990’s and up to 2002 when he left the program.

After Bell retired he had a short lived national show on SiriusXM satellite radio in 2013. Bell was inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2006 and into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2008.

Art Bell ell was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina, on June 17, 1945, the only child in a military family that moved around a lot, as most military families do.

He served in the Air Force as a medic during the Vietnam War and while in the Air Force, “Created an on-base pirate radio station that played anti-war music,” according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Bell leaves behind his wife, Airyn, whom he married in 2006 and children Asia, Alex and Art Bell IV.
