SR 531 travelers in Snohomish County:
Plan for daytime delays this week

May 16, 2018

Crack sealing work on SR 531 starts Wednesday, May 16

(SNOHOMISH COUNTY) – The Washington State Transportation Dept. (WSDOT) says “heads up” for anyone that uses State Route 531/Lakewood Road from Lake Goodwin to Smokey Point.

WSDOT contractor crews will seal cracks along a five-mile stretch of this highway (Lake Goodwin Road to 11th Avenue Northeast near Lakewood High School) daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 16 through Friday, May 19.

This work is part of a resurfacing project to preserve most of SR 531 and stretches of six other highways.

“If you can avoid daytime travel during this work, please do. Delays will be long – we repeat, delays will be long - as flaggers and a pilot car alternate traffic through the work zone,” says a WSDOT statement.

This crack sealing work is just one stage of this project. Crews already finished pavement repair, they’ll be back to put down a fog seal and then in July or August, when temperatures are warmer, they'll put a thin new layer of asphalt on the road before final striping.

The short video below explains how WSDOT’s contractor crews from Granite Construction will resurface nearly 40 miles of highway in four different northwest counties this year.
