(NATIONAL) -- Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day set aside for remembrance of those who have died in our nations service.

Memorial Day was first proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, in his General order number 11, and was first observed on 30 May 1868; when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers.

(LEAVENWORTH, WA.) -- The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is asking the public to report any shipping packages they might come across located along the banks of Peshastin Creek, from milepost 184 on Highway 97 downstream to the Wenatchee River as well as the Wenatchee River downstream.

(BOZEMAN, MONTANA) -- Just one day after being charged with assault for allegedly attacking and body-slamming a reporter in his Montana campaign office, Republican Greg Gianforte has won the special election for the lone U.S. House seat in Montana, according to an Associated Press projection Thursday night.

Almost 70 percent of votes in Montana were cast and sent in by mail before the alleged assault took place.
