(NATIONAL) -- It would appear that a "war hero" featured on the right-wing leaning FOX News has a bit of a credibility problem: as in, he's not a war hero and he never went off to war.
Leave it to The Daily Beast to note that the military veteran "glowingly featured by Fox News earlier this month for his pro-Trump artwork and his record as a “war hero,” admitted Thursday to lying about his military service. "
That man is 72-year old John Garofalo. He was featured in a report by Fox's Bryan Llenas as, "Having served seven years as a Navy SEAL, receiving 22 commendations, including two Purple Hearts, and having been listed twice as missing in action during Vietnam," said the Beast.
Garofalo, the war hero even personally carved a presidential seal as a to gift President Trump. What a guy, Garofalo.
During the interview on Fox Noxy Fox "News", Lilnas called him a hero and a Fox News "anchor," Eric Shawn later said,: “God bless John Garofalo. We certainly hope maybe the president is listening.”
But things went sideways for Garafolo when the Navy Times contacted him. Garofalo then fessed up to having lied about his military service.
Fixed, er Fox News has since removed the video interview (which had gone viral on Facebook) and then later issued a statement apologizing for the "error“ and Llenas also issued an on air correction here , which was awfully nice of him don't you think?
Memo to the guys at Fox where this kind of stuff seems par for the course: next time you interview a "war hero" who was a Navy Seal and has 22 commendations, you night want to check his military service record before pasting the hero's story all over the electronic universe.
We're pretty sure that part is covered in Journalism 101 at college.
