After a century as Seattle area based beef jerky giant, Oberto looks at selling
February 14, 2018

CLICK TO ENLARGE. One of many flavors of beef jerky produced and sold by Oberto
(KENT, WA.) -- How do you tell a native northwesterner? They’re the ones with fond memories from ages ago of opening up their pack and tearing into a few packages of Oberto Beef Jerky in the blazing sun up on the Ramparts Ridge trail at Mt. Rainier or any one of thousands of similar places in the Cascade mountains.

A time before anyone back east had ever heard of Oberto. And now after a century as a Seattle area based food company, iconic meat-snack maker Oberto Brands is considering a sale.

The Seattle Times reports that the company, based in Kent is exploring different options to “ensure that we have the ability to invest in our continued growth,” according to a company statement issued Monday.

A CEO of of another snack products manufacturer who was approached about purchasing Oberto said the company has hired an investment banking firm to sell all or part of the company, merge with a competitor or raise more capital, according to the newspaper report.

Officials at Oberto have not confirmed that as of early Wednesday.
