Man injured in shooting on "Gun Club Road" in Granite Falls
September 13, 2017

Chronicle staff

(GRANITE FALLS, WA.) -- What are the odds a guy will get shot at an address on a street called Gun Club Road?

But it happened. According to sheriff's office spokesperson Shari Ireton, deputies responded to a shooting around 12:30 am Tuesday morning at the 20300 block of Gun Club Rd.

"The victim, a 61-year old Granite Falls male, was transported by aid to Harborview Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the shoulder," said Ireton who added, it's "believed" the shooter, a 35-year old man was inspecting a .22 caliber rifle when it "accidentally went off."

There was no reported altercation between the victim and the shooter before the incident occurred. Several adults and a child were inside the home when the gun went off, but no other injuries were reported.

Ireton says two witnesses, a 36-year old woman and a 24-year old woman as well as the shooter stayed at the scene and provided deputies with statements.

A .22 caliber rifle was recovered and taken in as evidence. No charges have been filed at this time. The sheriff's office says this is "still an active investigation."

For the record, the first rule of safe gun handling is make sure the thing is unloaded. Second rule: same as the first.
