(TACOMA, WA.) -- Tacoma Police officers shot and killed a man in a residential neighborhood Sunday after getting 911 calls of a man acting erratically and carrying a firearm, according to Tacoma Police.

Police say the man opened fire on them and officers returned fire. The man who died was not immediately identified. The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death and release the man's identity.

The incident happened just before 3:30 pm in the 5600 block of South Lawrence Street. None of the officers were injured.

A police spokeswoman said when officers arrived on scene they confronted a man with a gun who was acting strangely and they ordered him to drop the weapon.

The man reportedly did not comply, then fired at the police officers who returned fire, killing the man.

All three officers are being placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with standard police procedure as the investigaiton into the incident moves forward.
