(TACOMA, WA.) – The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office says two men lost their lives Thursday when they sped off from a traffic stop and crashed the motorcycle they were on.
The incident happened just before 3 pm. A patrol deputy “spotted a motorcycle being driven recklessly in the 7200 block of Golden Given Rd. E. in Tacoma,” said a statement from the sheriff’s office. “The deputy attempted a traffic stop but the motorcyclist sped away and was not pursued by the deputy.”
Less than a minute later that motorcycle entered a 4-way stop intersection at Golden Given Rd. and 85th St. East at a high rate of speed.
The motorcycle crashed into two vehicles and the men riding on the motorcycle were thrown from it. Deputies attempted first aid and CPR on both riders, who died at the scene.
The sheriff’s office says both riders were tentatively determined to be a 48 year old male and a 47 year old male, both from the Midland area.
“The motorcycle appears to be spray painted and altered, and investigators are checking with records to determine its status,” said the statement.
