THAT MYSTERY THING IN THE SEATTLE TUNNEL DIG
December 12, 2013

(SEATTLE, WA) -- Is it a long buried UFO? After all, this is the area that coined the term "flying saucer" with the Kenneth Arnold sighting over Mt. Rainier many years ago.

Perhaps it is a remnant of a long lost civilization or a man made object from Seattle's past. Whatever it is, it can stop a huge powerful tunnel boring machine and it doesn't at first glance appear to be a just a big boulder.

Contractors working for the Washington State Dep't of Transportation (WSDOT) hope to get a handle this week on what exactly is blocking a highway (SR 99) tunnel dig under downtown Seattle.

The mystery object stopped Big Bertha, the humongous (five story tall) tunnel boring machine they're using to carve out the tunnel, in its tracks about a thousand feet from where it started boring into the earth and rock.

Experts say it maybe Friday before they know what the obstruction is.
