July 14, 2017
(NATIONAL) -- Well, Donald Trump Jr. seems to be getting there, meaning he's almost as famous this week as his father but perhaps for reasons he would rather not be known for.

Trump Jr. has become the cover shot for the current issues of Time magazine.
It shows a black and white image of Trumpster Jr. superimposed with sentences from one of his now bombshell emails having to do with meeting that Russian lawyer who said she had dirt to hand to the Trump campaign on Hillary Clinton as part of a Russian government effort to help the senior Trump become the next US President.
The cover issue reads: "Red Handed: the Russia scandal hits home." The Time story that goes with the cover starts out with:
"The most pressing question of our time might be: How bad is it?
As a candidate and now as President, Donald Trump has smashed the gauges that once tracked the normal temperature, pressure and wind speed in the climate map of American politics. Now when it feels like the barometer is plunging, we can only watch and wonder: Who can predict what's coming next, with so many broken indicators...
...Washington has a feeling that this storm could be a monster. And the twinge that forecast the deluge was Donald Trump Jr. facing a camera and issuing what sounded a little like an apology. Which is an ominous sign in an Administration that means never having to say you're sorry."
But perhaps the finest paragraph is this one:
"A bombshell report in the New York Times revealed the junior Trump's enthusiastic response to "obviously very high level and sensitive" morsels supposedly collected by the Kremlin -- a report so accurate that the young Trump shared the proof himself on Twitter rather than try the #FakeNews dodge.
Then the President's eldest son paid a visit to Fox News host Sean Hannity's show. For Trumpers in trouble, this is like a grounded child serving detention at Grandpa's house. He frowns, then spins a better excuse than the child could ever create alone, followed by ice cream."
You have to hand it to writer David Von Drehle. The man does know how to turn a phrase. The report notes that this much is clear about the Russian scandal so far:
Whether the Trumps teamed up with the Russians or not, they certainly wanted to and that overrides the months of denials "from the Trump orbit that there was anything to what the President has repeatedly called a "witch hunt."

NBC News reports Trump Jr.'s meeting with Russian lawyer included former Soviet counter intelligence officer
NBC News reported early in the morning on Friday July 14 that the Russian lawyer who met with the Trump team after a promise of compromising material on Hillary Clinton, was accompanied by a Russian-American lobbyist — "a former Soviet counter intelligence officer who is suspected by some U.S. officials of having ongoing ties to Russian intelligence, NBC News has learned."
NBC News did not name the lobbyist, who denies any current ties to Russian spy agencies. That lobbyist is a Russian-born American lobbyist who served in the Soviet military and emigrated to the U.S, where he holds dual citizenship, according to the NBC News report.
