(NATIONAL) -- Is the Donald Trump trademark phrase, "Make America Great Again" really nothing more than badly disguised code for "Make America White Again"?

Code that many of his hard-core followers understood instantly from day one and remain hypnotically, gleefully orgasmic over?

When President Trump makes the kinds of divisive, foul-mouth, racially ugly comments he reportedly made Thursday during an Oval Office meeting on immigration, where he voiced his displeasure at restoring protected status to immigrants from "shithole countries" such as Haiti, El Salvador and African nations, do the sycophantic, far right wing Republican lawmakers in Congress get excited and happy that this man's sitting in the White House representing America?

Since the worldwide backlash to his comments erupted, Trump has tweeted that "this was not the language" he used in that meeting, claiming the language he used was "tough, but this "was not the language used".

However, numerous news publications including The Washington Post, the New York Times, Politico and the Wall Street Journal all reported the comments on Thursday, quoting witnesses or people briefed on the meeting. The White House made a point not to deny them.

Where to begin to explain what many Americans and much of the rest of the world think now about Donald Trump? Here's but a small sampling of reaction that came later Thursday and Thursday night to President Trump's "shithole countries" comment:

.......Movie Director Rob Reiner tweeted: "Can’t wait until we get rid of this shithole president."

.......former CIA Director John Brennan said Thursday that Lady Liberty is "weeping" over President Trump's "atrocious" reference to immigrants being from shithole countries. "Lady Liberty, our founding fathers, and generations of right-thinking Americans are all weeping tonight over the atrocious comments attributed to Donald Trump, who continues to demonstrate daily that he is a deeply flawed person," Brennan tweeted.

.......Vincente Fox Queseda, the President of Mexico tweeted: "@realDonaldTrump, your mouth is the foulest shithole in the world. With what authority do you proclaim who’s welcome in America and who’s not. America’s greatness is built on diversity, or have you forgotten your immigrant background, Donald?"

....... South Africa's ruling African National Congress calls President Trump's comments "extremely offensive." Deputy secretary general Jesse Duarte said developing countries do have difficulties but noted that the U.S. itself has millions of people out of work or without health care, and "we would not deign to make comments as derogatory."

.......South African opposition leader Mmusi Maimane said Trump's comments are "abhorrent ... The hatred of Obama's roots now extends to an entire continent."

.......CNN News host Don Lemon began his Thursday night show saying, "The president of the United States is racist. A lot of us already knew that.” He also called Trump's remarks “disgusting.” “But you know what? They’re not shocking. They’re not even really surprising. Because this is who Donald Trump is.”

.......Earlier on Thursday, Lemon’s colleague, CNN news host Anderson Cooper called Trump's remarks "racist.”

....... Miami-Dade’s Republican mayor called Trump's "shithole countries" remarks “shameful.” “If true, President Trump’s remarks are very unfortunate and shameful,” Mayor Carlos Gimenez said in the statement issued after 10 p.m. Thursday.

....... Congresswoman Mia Love, a Republican of Utah who is of Haitian descent, demanded an apology from the president, saying his comments were “unkind, divisive, elitist, and fly in the face of our nation’s values.” “This behavior is unacceptable from the leader of our nation,” Ms. Love said in a statement that noted her heritage and that said her parents “never took a thing” from the government while achieving the American dream. “The president must apologize to both the American people and the nations he so wantonly maligned.”

.......“As an American, I am ashamed of the president,” said Representative Luis V. Gutiérrez, Democrat of Illinois. “His comments are disappointing, unbelievable, but not surprising.” He added that, we can now “say with 100 percent confidence that the president is a racist who does not share the values enshrined in our Constitution or Declaration of Independence.”

And so it goes, as Mr. Trump continues his journey to make America...great again.
