COURT DOCUMENTS DEPICT SEATTLE ATTORNEY AS FRIGHTENING, STALKING
And “extreme danger to the community”
September 28, 2012
(SEATTLE, WA) -- He may have been a handsome, rising young legal star with a prestigious law firm that traces its roots back to the turn of the century, but charging documents filed in King County accusing Seattle attorney Danford Grant in multiple rape cases portray the young, clean shaven, bespectacled lawyer in quite a different light.

The types of crimes Grant stands accused of in probable cause documents filed by deputy prosecuting attorney Valiant L. Richey are bracing for their alleged planning and brutality, particularly considering the accused is not a common street thug with a long rap sheet but an individual many would consider part of the upper crust in America; a firmly planted member of the educated, elite, leadership class of society.
The same class that routinely produces governors, senators and presidents.
Grant stands accused of committing six felonies in four sexual attacks on three different female massage therapists. Among the charges are rape, attempted rape and burglary.
“The facts of this case show that the defendant is an extreme danger to the community,” wrote Richey in the request for a high bail amount.
He described Grant as partner in a law firm with a “substantial salary,” and the means and “stated attempt to travel despite his claimed ties to the community. In one of the attacks, the defendant stated to the victim that he had lots of money and that they could travel all over the world together,” wrote Richey.
The charging papers also state that Grant has shown an ability and intent “to research and intimidate victims into complying with his demands and therefore poses a threat to the administration of justice.”
In one of the rape cases Grant is accused of, this one involving a massage therapist in Bellevue, court documents show that Grant was receiving a massage from the woman in late August when all of a sudden he allagedly grabbed her, pulled her toward him on the massage bed and said that he “wanted to have her now.”
To the surprise of the therapist, Grant allegedly told her he had been doing research on her and then told her what her correct home address was and what he husband’s name was, according to the document.
There was as struggle, the therapist told police, and eventually she said Grant pulled from his clothing on the clothes hanger a pocket knife with a sliver blade which he allegedly used to threaten her into submission.
“She told him if he put the knife away she would have sex with him. She said he suddenly changed his behavior and put the knife away. The victim said she then told him she had HIV, hoping this would stop him but he just said, “Me too,” and got a condom from his jacket.
The suspect pushed her forward again onto the massage table and said, “you got to get f ***ed today,” Bellevue Police Detective Robert Thompson wrote in the charging document.
The document stated there was more struggle with the victim on the floor and then, “the suspect ejaculated into the condom,” after which the suspect got up, got dressed and walked out the front door.
The court papers show that on Sept. 25 when this victim was shown a montage of faces, she instantly picked “photograph #2 (Danford Grant) as the person who raped her on August 28th, 2012.”
Thompson also wrote that when he contacted Grant at the county jail and told Grant he was being investigated on a case that involved a massage parlor and that he, Grant, had been positively identified as the suspect he said, “Grant never inquired as to what the crime was or what he was accused of, he just requested his attorney.”
Thompson also said that Grant told him it was okay to call him “Dan.”
Mr. Grant remains jailed on $3 million bail and is scheduled for arraignment on the charges October 11.
