The Machete Bandit And The Kitsap County Weed Store Robbery

Chronicle News
By Rex D. Cain

(KINGSTON, WA.) – A machete wielding bandit is on the loose after robbing a cannabis store in Kitsap County late Monday morning.

The sheriff’s office says it happened around 11:40 am at the Green Tiki Cannabis Company store, located at George’s Corner, 8202 NE State Highway 104, in Kingston.’

A perp walks into the store, asks about some weed packages on a shelf behind the counter so the store clerk “retrieved some packages, turned around and set them on the counter,” according to a sheriff’s office statement, only to see the perp pull out a large, black-colored machete.

As you might imagine, this was an unsettling moment for the clerk. A machete can do serious damage at close quarters. Such a tool is, in the right hands, a lethal weapon.

The bandit then grabs the packages of pot – which was not only illegal but rude and uncalled for – and walks out the door. Last seen “running southbound through the George’s Corner parking lot.”

Sheriff’s patrol deputies, assisted by units from the Port Gamble Department of Public Safety, Bainbridge Island police, Suquamish police and the Washington State Patrol, responded to assist with the initial investigation and also helped set up a containment of the area.

They scoured the area good looking for this guy. A sheriff’s K-9 team “initiated a track” and the dog nose hunt was on. But the track ended about 12:31 pm. No perp found.

Suspect described as: white male, early 20’s, about 5’ 06” to 5’ 10” tall with an athletic build and wearing a light-colored gray knit (beanie) cap, large, black-colored sunglasses and a long-sleeve dark-colored crew neck shirt over a white tee-shirt, blue jeans and black athletic shoes with white soles which, all things considered, was a fairly spiffy outfit to be in while out doing gangsta stuff.

The sheriff’s office in a statement said, “From video surveillance systems it appears that the suspect arrived several minutes before the robbery and positioned his vehicle across the parking lot near a Domino’s Pizza store. He was last seen driving northbound on Hansville Road NE. Sheriff’s detectives responded to process and collect evidence and to continue with the follow-up investigation."

Anyone who may be to identify the suspect or his vehicle (see photos above right) or who may have information about the Machete Bandit is asked to contact Detective Tim Keeler at 360.337.4825, or Detective Krista McDonald at 360.337.7117.

The above photograph depicts the suspect and the car used by the suspect when driving away from George’s Corner in Kingston after knocking off the Green Tiki Cannabis Company store. The vehicle was last seen driving northbound on Hansville Road NE.
