This report was first published 3/5/17 in the Chronicle's Breaking news section

(BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WA.) -- On December 28th of last year Sarah Dean, 33, was walking home on State Route 305 between Noll Road NE and Johnson Rd. NE in Poulsbo, WA in Kitsap County when she was hit and critically injured by a Dodge Dakota pickup truck.

It was a hit and run event with the driver leaving the area without stopping to render aid. Sarah was left badly injured in a ditch in the dark.

Her mother says since that time she's endured multiple surgeries with compound fractures in her leg and hand. Sarah's recovery and rehabilitation is expected to last into the end of the year and steep medical bills are piling up.

Sarah's mother works for the Coldwell Banker real estate office on Bainbridge Island and her office has put together a fundraiser for Sarah to be held on Saturday April 15, which is Sarah’s birthday.

The "Dance/Walk-a-Thon" event begins at Bainbridge Island High School and concludes at Waterfront Park in downtown Winslow. The community is invited to participate in the festivities by dancing or walking along the route and by wearing rainbow colors, "as they are joyful, festive and celebrate spring and the promise of a brighter future for Sarah," according to a statement from Coldwell Banker Bain (CB Bain) of Bainbridge Island.

Donations will be collected at sites provided at the start and end of the route, as well as along the event route.

Additionally, donations will be accepted at any time at the CB Bain of Bainbridge Island real estate office, located at 299 Madison Avenue North or via Sarah’s Go Fund me page that was set up by her mom. The page can be found here .

As of early Wednesday morning over $28,000 had been raised on a goal of $50,000.

Details on the fundraiser:

Date: Saturday, April 15, 2017

Time: 2:00pm – 4:00pm

Location: Start at Bainbridge Island High School, 9330 High School Rd NE, Bainbridge Island End at Waterfront Park at 280 Madison Ave North on Bainbridge Island

Police are searching for this truck

Washington State Patrol Detectives in Poulsbo have requested the public’s help in locating a Dodge Dakota pickup truck and driver who seriously injured Sarah on that stretch of SR 305.

The hit and run happened on Dec. 28 of last year between 7:00 pm and 7:15 pm. Wash. State Patrol Troopers recovered a passenger side mirror with serial numbers that match Dodge truck models issued between the years 2007 and 2010.

The truck itself may have some damage to the right front fender area, side or passenger door.

The color of the truck is not known.

If you have any information on where the Dodge Dakota pick up is or know who may have been driving it that night you can give the information to Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound anonymously via a P3 Tips App on your phone or by going to http://www.P3Tips.com.

You can also call 1-800-222-TIPS. There is a cash reward of up to $1,000 for any information that solves this case.
