HWY 2 ACCIDENT NEAR INDEX INJURES FOUR

One of two collision sign "reminders" the state installed on the dangerous and heavily traveled State Route 2 in the Sky Valley on May 27, 2009 as part of the US 2 traffic safety corridor project.
(INDEX, WA.) -- The state patrol says four people were injured and two cars were totaled in an accident Sunday morning May 31st on State Route 2 near Index.
The incident occurred just before 12 noon on the highway at the junction with the Index-Galena Road, the turnoff to the town of Index
The patrol report says a red 2001 Ford F250 pickup truck was westbound on SR 2 at milepost 35 and a blue 2006 Kia Soren was at the stop sign on the Mt. Index River Road getting set to take a right turn out onto westbound Highway 2.
The Kia Soren failed to yield right of way to the Ford pickup which then ran into the Kia. Both vehicles came to a stop in the eastbound lanes of the highway, according o the WSP report.
Injured in the Kia were:
~ The driver, identified as Mehran Moini, 48, of Bothell, WA who was taken to Providence hospital in Everett. The Kia was totaled in the accident.
~ A passenger identified as Theresa L. Moini of Kirkland, WA. Transported to Providence hospital in Everett.
~ A passenger identified as Laurel M. Williams, 22, of Bothell, WA. Transported to Providence hospital in Everett.
Injured in the Ford pickup truck was the driver identified as 21-year old Jordana A. Anderson of Lake Stevens. She was taken to Providence Hospital.
Her vehicle was totaled.
The cause of the accident was failure to yield right of way to oncoming traffic, according to the patrol report.
