(MONROE, WA .) – Jim Langston was sworn into office as a new member of the Monroe School District Board of Directors at the Jan. 23rd meeting of the board at Maltby Elementary school.

Langston was appointed to the post Dec. 9, 2016 to fill the vacancy created by the unexpected death of long time Director Jim Scott.

The Monroe Board of Directors unanimously approved the appointment of Langston to fill the seat of Director of District # 4, which encompasses the Maltby area.

Mr. Langston is a long-time school volunteer and owner of local childcare learning centers. He will serve in Scott’s place until November 2017.

If he chooses to stay on the board, he will have to win re-election during the fall school board campaign.

Langston, who was a founding member of the Monroe Public Schools Foundation and continues to serve as a board member, was one of two board applicants seeking the appointment.

School board President Darcy Cheesman said, “We were fortunate to have two outstanding candidates. What resounded with us was Langston’s deep roots in the community and his impressive resume of volunteering to serve the youth of Monroe.”
