(MONROE, WA.) – The Monroe School District released a statement Tuesday saying that, “After long hours spent negotiating over the holiday weekend, Monroe School District (MSD) and Monroe Education Association (MEA) reached a tentative agreement on a new contract for teachers, counselors and other educational professionals in the district.”
Schools are expected to begin today, September 5 as scheduled. The agreement was reached at 2:31 am Tuesday. Teachers, members of the Monroe Education Association have a general membership meeting set for 4:15 pm this afternoon.
“I am grateful to the bargaining teams for working very hard together over the holiday weekend to come to an agreement,” said MSD Superintendent Fredrika Smith. “And, I especially want to thank our teachers and staff, parents and community members for their patience and understanding as we worked through this difficult process.”
“Monroe School District is fortunate to have such a passionate and dedicated workforce preparing our students for their futures. We look forward to beginning the school year and continuing to serve our 6,500+ students and their families.”
Details of the tentative agreement will be released after MEA ratification. School calendar adjustments also will be forthcoming.
