Monroe's soon to be completed new park-playground on track to be a big hit

(MONROE, WA.) -- It's looking better and better and we predict it's gonna be a smash hit. Gonna be the hottest thing since peanuts and baseball.

That would be Monroe's new new Sky River Park which is on track for completion this summer. It will replace the old, funky and fairly useless 25-year old playground at Skykomish River Park.

Hey, you want to watch the nightly news or an HBO movie on a 25-year old TV set? We think not.

Nor does today's hip-hop, smart-phone wielding, Instagram posting, fake-news consuming generation of kids want to play on the same swing set you did a quarter century ago. That's pathetic.

Ergo, The Monroe City Council authorized the 2018 Parks Capital Improvement Project (CIP) funding for replacement of that dilapidated, out dated, and Coyote-ugly Skykomish River Park.

Also, the fine members of the Monroe Park Board reviewed the existing playground equipment and recommended that the new park/playground include "new active play features and improved ADA accessibility," according to a statement from the city. Active is good for a playground.

A public Open House was held in January where good folks of all persuasions "viewed colorful information boards that displayed several feature options and concepts such as inclusive units, themes and freestanding units and voted on their preferences and voiced comments and suggestions."

And thus the ideas and conversations from the open house added "detail and nuance to the final play equipment design," as indeed they should have because without detail and nuance you end up with useless stuff...like the United States Congress.

So, it all boils down to design criteria kids. And the criteria that was set for the new park/playground includes features that encourage multi-generational play, ADA inclusive play spaces that intentionally break down physical and social barriers to play, playful public art (one of our personal favorites) that "enhances the visual appeal of the park," and "advanced climbing challenges and motion activities" -- all things that appeal to older children who seek a more adventurous play experience.

And by God, who in their right mind doesn't want a more adventurous play experience these days after watching the debacle that's unfolded in the White House (thanks to Captain Hairspray) and US Congress (blind zombies who do Hairspray's bidding) the past year?

Thank God for adventurous play experiences that (hopefully) will take everyone's mind off how far this country has sunk low, low, low into the mud of social degradation, racial intolerance, immorality at the highest levels (porn stars suing the President of the United States) a political campaign that was in bed with the Russians to do you-know-what, disintegrating democracy, a Gestapo like federal police presence (ICE) and the full ascendancy of the billionaire American oligarchy class who now control everything not to mention the vanishing of the real American dream. Just for openers.

But we digress.

In any event this new playground gonna kick some butt, we think. Check out the computer generated video clip below of what the new playground for Sky River Park will look like. (On opening day we're gonna have the Sky Valley Chronicle drone fleet up in the sky doing all the angles for your dining and dancing pleasure).
