Snohomish, Gold Bar Residents Injured When Pickup Truck Slams Into Stalled Car On Shoulder Of SR 2
April 18, 2017

(MONROE, WA.) - You may have heard this advice more than once in your life. If your car breaks down on a highway, stay inside your car and wait for help to arrive.

The other side to that coin is this: staying with your car makes you a stationary target, a sitting duck for an impaired or texting driver.

The Washington State Patrol says a Snohomish resident and a man from Gold Bar were injured over the weekend when a drunk driver plowed into the vehicle they were standing in front of on the shoulder of State Route 2 near Monroe.

The incident happened Saturday night April 15 at about 11:15 pm.

The patrol report says a silver 2002 Dodge Dakota Pickup was eastbound on Highway 2 at the Old Owen Road.

A white 1991 Lexus LS and a white 1999 Land Rover Discovery SUV were stopped on the eastbound shoulder of the highway about a mile east of Monroe.

The Lexus was abandoned and both the Gold Bar man and the man from Snohomish were standing outside the vehicles and in front of the white Lexus.

All of a sudden the silver Dodge Dakota Pickup truck veers off the highway and rams into the rear end of the Lexus, causing the Lexus to hit both men as they stood in front of it.

The Lexus was then pushed into the Land Rover which came to rest blocking the roadway. The Dodge pickup came to rest on its side, also blocking the roadway.

Injured were the two pedestrians standing outside and in front of the Lexus. They were identified as:

Tommy D. Ellis, 45, of Snohomish, WA. Transported by aid car to Providence Hospital in Everett.

Terry L. Kill, 49, of Gold Bar, also transported by aid car to Providence Hospital in Everett.

The white Lexus they were standing in front of was totaled. Also totaled was the silver Dodge Dakota pickup. The driver of that pickup, identified as Kimberly A. Immoos, 32, of Snohomish, WA was not injured.

The driver of the Land Rover, identified as Twyla M. Kill, 42, of Everett was not injured.

The patrol report says the crash was caused by driving under the influence on the part of the driver of the Dodge pickup truck and that the driver was cited for DUI and vehicular assault.
