(SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA.) -- Forty driver violation citations handed out in just thee hours.

That's what the state patrol says it's Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers and Commercial Vehicle Division troopers did during a safety "emphasis" patrol January 10th on busy State Route 522 between Monroe and Woodinville.

The troopers were "specifically looking for overweight commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) as well as equipment and load securement violations," said a WSP statement. And they did find what they were looking for.

The patrol report says between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. that day trooper units stopped 37 commercial vehicles, resulting in: 40 driver violations, 30 equipment/weighing violations and 3 "out of service" violations.

Those violations included, but were not limited to, unsecured loads, speeding, and overweight vehicles, "All of which contribute to serious injury and fatality collisions" said the patrol statement on the day's activity.

The WSP said "citizen requests and data from our partners at the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) made this emphasis possible."

The patrol says it gets numerous complaints about commercial vehicles CMV’s losing rocks and debris along SR 522.

Additionally, data from WSDOT shows that in November of 2017 alone, 26.41% of CMV’s traveling westbound on SR 522 were found to be overweight -- the highest percentage in the state of Washington.

The WSP says the emphasis patrol was done in an effort to make Washington roadways "the safest in the nation."
