Big Paving Project Coming To Bickford Ave. In May

Chronicle Staff

(SNOHOMISH, WA.) – The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will be paving US Highway 2 from Interstate 5 to Bickford Avenue in Snohomish beginning in May.

This work will remove damaged asphalt and repave both directions of US 2. Additionally, a thorough inspection of the westbound US 2 Hewitt Avenue trestle will be conducted and repairs will be made as needed, according to a statement from WSDOT.

This work will require six weekend closures of the westbound lanes of US 2 between Bickford Avenue and the I-5 interchange.

The narrow westbound trestle does not have adequate space for construction crews and equipment, and safely keep a traffic lane open.

“The work being done during those closures takes much longer than a standard overnight closure of seven hours,” says WSDOT.

Eastbound paving work will happen during overnight closures.

Tentative weekend westbound US 2 closure dates:

  • May 18 – May 20

  • June 1 – June 3

  • June 22 – June 24

  • June 29 – July 1

  • July 13 – July 15

  • July 20 – July 22

These dates are weather dependent. Please expect traffic delays.

During the last two weekend closures of westbound US 2, northbound traffic will detour to State Route 9 through Lake Stevens to Marysville.

Southbound traffic will detour to State Route 9 through Snohomish to Mill Creek.

Additional information is on the WSDOT project webpage
