Expect Long Delays Late At Night This Week On Highway 2 Between Sultan & Gold Bar
August 08, 2017

(SEATTLE, WA.)  --  The following information about road closures and highway work schedules was issued August 3rd by the Washington State Dept. of Transportation.

Overnight closures of SR 529

Overnight drivers who use SR 529 Ebey Slough Bridge in Marysville should plan ahead for delays as WSDOT bridge, maintenance and contractor crews will lift concrete and stabilize bridge approaches in order to create a smoother trip for drivers.

Monday, Aug. 7, to the morning of Saturday, Aug. 12

All lanes of SR 529/State Avenue over the Ebey Slough Bridge will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, Aug. 7-10, and from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. overnight Friday, Aug. 11.

US Highway 2 work in Sultan-Gold Bar areas now through Aug. 11

Work continues on two different projects on US 2 this week. In the Sultan area, travelers should plan for a work zone nightly 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6 through 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11.

Between Gold Bar and Skykomoish daytime work continues from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on this resurfacing project. Drivers should expect up to an hour of delay if you need to travel through these work zones.

I-5 paving in Marysville

Work takes a break on Monday August 8 due to the Canada’s Civic Holiday. Travelers can expect overnight work and ramp closures the rest of the week on this paving project. You can check out the Snohomish County Construction page for the specific closure info.

Date set for third SR 9 – SR 204 open house

Join the WSDOT project team from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16 for a formal presentation as they share the recommended preferred alternative for improving congestion in this busy area. The open house will be at Hillcrest Elementary School in Lake Stevens.

A few more days to prepare, SR 532 closes 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11

One more reminder to those who live or plan to visit Stanwood or Camano Island later this month. The highway closes just east of the Stanwood Haggen at milepost 6 at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11 for approximately two weeks.

A nearby detour is available for passenger vehicles but trucks, RV’s and others with a wide turning radius need to head up to Conway to get around the closure. Reminder to everyone that speed limits are lower on the detour routes.

Take home a piece of history

The SR 167 Puyallup River Bridge could be the next addition to your backyard. The 92-year old riveted steel span is looking for a new home. Check here for more information about how you could be its next owner.

Be ferry prepared!

Andrea Petrich of the WSDOT went out to the coast recently and didn’t take the advice she usually gives us. She didn’t confirm sailing schedules and ended up missing the final sailing for her preferred route and had to take a different one – leading to about two extra hours of travel at the end of the weekend.

So you don't make the same mistakes:

Check your ferry schedules before you go – you can pick up a hard copy at the terminal in case you don’t get cell service where you are headed.

Make sure your phone is updated with the latest software so you can easily access the WSDOT app and it's ferry info.

Consider making a reservation if your route offers them.

Remember that ferry routes off the Olympic Peninsula are crazy busy in the summer and things probably won’t be calm until close to 10 p.m. on Sunday.

Sometimes, if you’re lucky, the ice cream shops near the ferry lines will stay open late to satisfy your sweet tooth.
