(SULTAN, WA.) -- It's smokin' hot and all the big Hollywood stars will be there. In fact, as The Donald would say (if he were here) "Gonna be GREAT! Gonna be the best one ever! I know more about tree lightings than the generals do!"
We speak of course of the fun and frivolity to be had at the annual Winterfest Arts & Crafts fair and Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Sultan, Washington - where all the women are strong and pump iron and all the men are movie star pretty - Sat. Dec. 3rd.
The holiday crafts festival is always held at Sultan High School in December. It's a fun gig (10am to 4 pm) put on by the nice folks (most of them, anyway) at The Volunteers of America.
You got yer 80 + crafts booths (occasionally staffed by some hot looking babes) featuring jewelry, handmade leather works, pottery and woven treasures. Plus they got eats: pastries, chili, soups and more from the Sultan Education Foundation. It's a veritable Winter Wonderland of fun we say.
But that's not all THERE'S MORE! (said the late TV pitchman Billy Mays). For entertainment you have local high school bands and choral groups taking to the stage to perform all day as well as free kids activities all day long.
It's a hoot n' holler and if you don't show up, then by God something's wrong with you and you need to get it dealt with. Hear?
The Xmas tree lighting celebration will be held as darkness falls (probably with rain as well) at the Sultan Gazebo at River Park at the west end of town.
They'll have a bonfire, a sober Santa (we presume) cookies, cocoa, hot apple cider and all the holiday cheer you can handle.
No grumpy old fogies allowed.
And there's more!
How about the annual Victorian Country Christmas Show Dec. 2-4 at the Washington State Fair Events Center in Puyallup? They got 500 booths with vendors in Victorian costumes (we like the tavern wenches the best of all) selling art, jewelry, decorations, clothing, toys and more, That's a lot of fun too for you folks down south in Flatlandville.
And to the east (go east young man) along the Highway of Death (State Route 2 which runs right through the gorgeous Sky Valley here) you can enjoy Leavenworth's Christmas lights twinkling on snow, roasted chestnuts, sleigh rides, and caroling at the annual Leavenworth Christmas Lighting festival
The 4:30 p.m. lighting ceremony is only on Saturdays and Sundays, on now through Dec. 18.
And there's big doings in Monroe Sat. Dec.3rd for the Christmas tree lighting ceremony and holiday specials offered by merchants on Main Street.
