(SULTAN, WA.) -- It's free flick time in the eternal village by the river and the city of Sultan cordially invites you to the movies.
It's called the Sultan Summer Movie Series and it's organized by Crosswater Community Church in partnership with the Sultan Community Alliance.
Did we mention free? Yes, it's all free. And city officials have personally requested the mighty Chronicle get the word out (because they know all of you are hard core Chronicle readers) that the two-part series kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 29 with a showing of “The LEGO Batman Movie,” an animated adventure film featuring all the classic Batman characters.
In addition to the flick, the all-ages event features inflatables (we luv inflatables), games, trivia and outdoor activities including kickball, volleyball and more.
Eats will be available for purchase from 2-1/2 Men BBQ (locals who serve up some tasty barbee).
The series finale takes place at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12 with a showing of “The Goonies,” the classic 1985 adventure comedy about kids who discover a treasure map and decide to follow where it leads them.
This time grits (eats) will be available for purchase from the Sultan Booster Club, a nonprofit group that raises funds for Sultan High School athletics, which is a pretty standup thing to do. Be sure and high-five those dudes when you go buy yer grits.
Activities and games will again be available prior to the movie starting.
Admission for the Sultan Summer Movie Series is free (did we mention that?) and all are welcome to attend.
Activities begin at 6:30 p.m. with the movies rolling at dusk. The showings take place at the community gazebo at the far west end of Sultan's Main Street near the always lovely Sultan River where, if you listen carefully after dark, you can hear the soft bells of St. Mary's chiming in the distance.
Or perhaps not.
