(SULTAN, WA.) -- This weekend marks the sixth annual Return of the Salmon Celebration, which takes place 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23 in Osprey Park in Sultan.

This free, family-friendly event features vendors and educational displays, activities for kids, watershed education and a Master Gardener clinic.

Vendor space will be set up in the covered basketball courts in the park, and if the weather cooperates, in the adjacent grassy area as well.

Everyone is invited. Salmon will be available for purchase from Vick's Burger Shack and other refreshments will be available as well.

This annual eventembraces Native traditions, including a welcoming ceremony, drumming, dance, story-telling, demonstrations by Master Cedar Weaver Lance Taylor and Native flute performances by acclaimed musician Peter Ali.

Other highlights include performances by Swil Kanim, Lummi, a well-known virtuoso violinist and storyteller, and JP Falcon Grady, Blackfeet, a guitarist, singer and songwriter.

The fourth annual 5-kilometer “Salmon Run” takes place prior to the event. The timed runners’ race begins at 10 am and is followed by a non-competitive 1-mile fast walk.

Registration is $15 for the walk and $20 for the run, and is available on the day of the event from 9 – 9:45 a.m. at Osprey Park.
